Salvation Army
It mission is simple:
The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
Over ten years ago my agent booked me to speak at a youth event with the Salvation Army. I was confused at first, in my mind they were a social service organization. So why would they need a christian speaker? It was at that first event, a youth councils, with 600 teenagers that my eyes were opened to how beautifully the Salvation Army lives out their mission, especially the part that states to meet human needs . . . without discrimination. No matter what people have tried to say the truth remains there is not another organization that provides for so many on such diverse levels. In fact most people know the salvation army as a social service organization or even more simply a red kettle at Christmas. Well, the money dropped in those kettles over the Holiday season serves to create the entire operating budget in the community in which it was donated. Think about that for a moment, if you are shopping at your local grocery store and you drop $5 into a red kettle, that $5 will be used to provide for the people in your community, based on their needs nothing else.
There are no kettles out right now, but the Salvation Army is out. They are often the first to arrive and the last to leave when it comes to crisis. They came to Nashville after the tornados to serve and care for the first responders so that those trained to respond were fed and looked after. Then they took care of those affected by the tornado.
Currently, The Salvation Army is in Crisis Mode in every division of the country. They are trusting that their budgets will continue to provide for the needs of those in their communities in spite of the unexpected costs they have to create extra food boxes, cleaning supplies, and other quarantine needs of “their people”. Who are their people? You and I, and everyone in your community. Your friend who just lost their job and doesn’t know how to provide for their family. . . Well the Army is there because every person is their person and they will do all they can to meet our needs without discrimination.
If you have the ability please consider donating to the Salvation Army. They are helping EVERYONE who comes to their doors. (and those who can’t get to the doors. . . Because when there is a need and they know about it the Salvation Army delivers)
