SALVATION ARMY

About 5 years ago I was contacted to speak at a Salvation Army event. I must admit that I knew so little about the Army at that point that i was confused by the invite. Why would this organization that was great at thrift stores, red kettles, and disaster relief want me? and who would i speak too? Always up for an adventure I agreed to go, i can honestly say i was both in awe and shock at what i experienced.

I had been invited to my very first Youth Councils, for the Salvation Army CHURCH, yep i said church, i didn't know they were a church either. As the weekend played out I watched the students embrace the word and authority of God in a powerful way, this topped with my observations of their leaders (officers) who were so sold out to Christ that they were dying to themselves moment by moment for the sake of the Gospel were the first steps of me falling in LOVE with the Salvation Army.

Over the last 5 years i have had the privilege to speak at a number of Youth Councils and i continue to be impressed with the dedication of the Army to the next generation. At one of these events i had the opportunity to ask an officer why they poured so many resources into their youth. His response was close to poetic: "They are our future, without them we have nothing. so why wouldn't we as the Army pour every imaginable resource into them."
